The Demon King's Cowardly Vessel

Chapter 87

"He took three innocent lives without any intention. Can you imagine how scary and uncontrollable he would be once he's older? Everyone would have to cater to his every need or deal with their soul being taken. What happens when he's strong enough to take our souls?" Ralmaroz said calmly as he looked at the squirming fellow in his wife's arms.

Cahryss' hands shook slightly. She knew her husband was right. Their eldest son was too powerful, and he would only be more powerful as time pa.s.sed by. They might be able to control him when he was a child, but who knew for how long…

Thadeus could no longer bear to see the pained expression on Cahryss' face, so he took a step forward and snapped, "Then give him to me!"

Ralmaroz looked at him and said in a bone-chilling tone, "Stay out of this, Thadeus."

"I'll take care of the little one. If you are so afraid of him, then give him to me. I'll take him to somewhere far away and raise him in the dark forever!"

Ralmaroz thought about it for a moment before shaking his head. "That would never work. If Cahryss and I can't handle him, then neither can you. We are of the same strength."

"But not the same intelligence," Thadeus scoffed.

"You!" Ralmaroz growled as he released his aura, which formed a black demon shadow with horns and blue lightning arc. The black demon shadow lunged at Thadeus, who stood there calmly.

When the shadow was a few inches from Thadeus, a light green barrier emerged from behind him and formed a barrier that stopped the advancement of the shadow.

BAM!

The moment the shadow connected with the green barrier, a bright flash of lightning appeared, blinding everyone, before a wave of energy spread out across the room.

CRACK!

Multiple crack lines appeared on the walls around them when hit by the invisible wave of energy.

"Cahryss!" Both Ralmaroz and Thadeus suddenly realized that the person they both loved more than anything was in the room with them.

When they looked over at her, they saw her, with the darkest black wings wrapped around her like a coc.o.o.n, completely sheltering her from the attack just now.

Slowly, Cahryss'

"Why are you blaming me?" Thadeus protested. "He's the one who is trying to kill an innocent baby! Your baby, should I add?!"

At this moment, the door was slammed open. Two masked demon guards rushed in and stood in front of Cahryss while two more flew in from the windows and stood in front of Ralmaroz.

"Your Majesty! We just heard the commotion!" One of the guards said, "Sorry if we are late!"

"I'm fine," Ralmaroz said in a haughty manner before looking at Thadeus. "If you want to take that… thing away, that's impossible. No matter how powerful you are, you won't be able to defeat me and my personal guards. Leave now before I disregard our years of… friends.h.i.+p."

"What if I combine my strength with him, Ralmaroz?" Daemon Queen Cahryss said in a low threatening voice as she glared at her husband.

"Don't forget, my love…" To her surprise, her husband barely batted his eyelids. He merely said calmly, "Lucifer is in my hand. If you leave with one, I'll just sacrifice him then."

"You won't!"

"As long as that thing in your arms lives, Lucifer's future would be uncertain. I might as well get rid of him now," Ralmaroz said as he crossed his legs, looking very much like the king that he was born to be. "Choose, Cahryss. Either you choose the son that would one day kill everyone, or the son that would one day unite everyone and make Alercane greater than ever. But no matter what, only one would live to see the next full moon."

"How could you…" Tears fell from the corners of Cahryss' eyes. How could she choose? Both were her precious sons whom she carried and nurtured for 10 years. They were both her flesh and blood and were equally precious to her!

"I told you not to marry him, but you won't listen!" Thadeus snapped as he glared at Ralmaroz.

"Get out of here, Thadeus. That's my last warning," Ralmaroz said as he looked down at his friend from the throne. "If you are thinking of grabbing the thing with you, then let me warn you beforehand. I have placed the highest-ranked guards all around the periphery of the palace, and they have my permission to kill… I don't care whom…"

Even though he pitied his son, Daemon King Ralmaroz still chose to give him up for the future of his country. He had spent the last few weeks trying to prove that the prophecy was a mistake, and that the prophets saw wrongly, but he failed. All prophets saw the same thing when they touched baby Hades… Destruction of Alercane, a future that was full of blood and death.

Ralmaroz watched as Thadeus stormed out of the room angrily, and he knew that this would not be the end of it. Looking at his wife, who was crying silently while holding their son, he could not help but show a brief moment of sadness.

If he could, he would have protected his son. If there were only one, he could still direct all resources to him and talk some sense into the council… But the fact remained that there were two babies. He could not convince the council to disregard the prophecy when there was another equally powerful heir; an heir with a better future outlook.

And a king without his council was a weak king.

Clenching his fists, he lightly hit the arms of the throne before putting on a cold expression, one that he learned to fake since young. "Take the queen back to her room and let her be with the babe until the sacrificial ceremony. Let them have their last moments together," Ralmaroz said to his guards.

No matter what, his love for his wife was real. He knew that she would hate him for what he was about to do, and she probably had already started hating him… but a king had to do what a king had to do, even if it meant losing the love of his life.
