The Demon King's Cowardly Vessel

Chapter 86

For now, he had to choose his battle wisely. Taking a brief glance at the door, Lucifer asked tersely, "Is Juin… Is the soul within Juin my brother?"

Warlock yawned. "Why would your brother's soul be in a human's body?"

"Thadeus!" Lucifer sighed.

"No such person here!" Warlock continued to lie with a blank expression. He then smiled at Lucier, as if he was mocking the young demon king in front of him.

"ARGH!" Lucifer groaned. "I know who he is even if you keep lying."

"Lucifer," Warlock said with a threatening tone. "Do you think that it is right for your father to condemn your infant twin brother to death just because of a prophecy?"

"He's a harbinger of death! And he's destined to destroy Alercane! My father did the right thing!" Lucifer growled. Even from a young age, he was taught to put Alercane above all things. The future and wellbeing of Alercane surpa.s.sed all, even one's biological child.

"It could very well be you!" Warlock retorted as he glared at Lucifer. "He was a baby, a defenseless little demon baby!"

"A defenseless little demon baby?" Lucifer scoffed. "I might be quite clueless as to what happened to my brother, but I have heard some stories. From the moment he was born, he had been stealing souls of the unknowing servants."

"Did it not occur to you that he couldn't help it? Unlike yours, his power manifested way too early. How do you expect a baby to know how to control his power?" Warlock asked, trying to talk some sense into Lucifer, just like he did those many years ago to Ralmaroz.

(flashback)

Alercane, 160 years ago,

Inside a luxuriously decorated room where a golden throne with dragons carved into it was laying quietly at the end of the room, the voices of people arguing could be heard.

"Ralmaroz, no! The Imperial Seer is wrong! The prophecy is wrong!" Daemon Queen Cahryss begged as she hugged her eldest son, Hades, close to her chest.

He was still sleeping soundly in her arms; his chest moving up and down in a constant motion, with only the occasional stir that indicated that he was dreaming about something. And at the same time, his tiny left fist was holding onto a lock of his mother's hair, as if he was seeking for her warmth and rea.s.surance through the bare contact.

The baby was completely oblivious of what was about to happen

None of them knew that they would soon be separated from each other.

"Let's just pretend that we only have one son. Lucifer is good enough," a humanoid demon who was dressed only in a pair of red silk pants and with horns growing out of his temples said coldly as he pa.s.sed his sleeping youngest son to a young demon maid, slowly removing the lock of his white hair that his son was holding tightly.

His blue eyes glowed slightly as he placed a kiss on baby Lucifer's forehead before telling the maid to take him away.

Once they left the room, the humanoid demon, also known as Daemon King Ralmaroz, turned around and looked at his wife as he reached up to tie his long waist-length white hair and said, "You shouldn't have given birth to twins."

Ralmaroz would be happy with just one child. It wasn't like he was really upset with having twins, since that meant two sons who could inherit his kingdom. Unfortunately, he was gifted, or cursed, with two extremely powerful sons.

Two newborn demon kings... Ralmaroz could at most raise and control one demon king, but two? If the two of them went on a rampage, who knew how many lives would be lost to stop them?

And worst, his eldest was born with a cursed power; one that no one knew how to control.

BAM!

Just as he was in his own thoughts, the door was thrown open. Looking up, Ralmaroz's expression turned dark when he saw who his visitor was.

"Your Majesty…" The guards on watch looked on guiltily, but they were soon dismissed with a wave of Ralmaroz's hands.

"Ralmaroz!" Thadeus, as Warlock was known back then, snapped as he walked toward the Daemon King. "Watch how you talk to Cahryss!"

"She's Queen Cahryss to you, Thadeus," Ralmaroz warned as he glared at Thadeus. "And I'm King Ralmaroz. We are no longer children, so you should watch how you address us."

"F*ck that!" Thadeus narrowed his eyes at Ralmaroz threateningly as his green eye glowed slightly. The air around his body condensed slightly, to the point that one could see the air that was forming some sort of barrier around him.

"Thadeus…" Cahryss put a hand on her best friend's shoulder, and when he glanced at her, she shook her head and said, "Don't fight with Ralmaroz now… Please."

She knew that her best friend was trying to protect her, like what he always did, but she had to do this herself. She had to convince her husband to take back his order, and Thadeus' temper would make it hard for her to do so.

Thadeus frowned, but he kept himself in check for now. He gave Ralmaroz a glare that said "You are lucky she's here or I'm going to beat your a*s so badly that your mother won't recognize you".

Ralmaroz merely ignored him. In terms of combat ability, they were both at around the same level, so he wasn't afraid of him.

"Ralmaroz, he's just a baby… Please don't do this. He's our baby. If you want to sacrifice someone, please choose me…" Cahryss begged as tears lined her beautiful eyes. "Look at Hades! He's just a baby. If we raise him well, he can definitely change his fate!"

"Listen to yourself, Cahryss. How can a fate be changed just like that?" Ralmaroz said with a sigh. He gave a less than half a second glance at his oldest son before turning around. Subconsciously, his fingers moved to clench halfway, but just as they were about to be formed into fists, he relaxed them and took a deep breath.

Walking across the room, he said in a cold voice, "That boy's fate has been sealed. If he's not a demon king, I could still control him by limiting his training and making him a common demon. But he's not."

He sat at the golden throne, which had been pa.s.sed down from the first Daemon King of Alercane, and said, "Cahryss, listen to me. We can have other children, and until then, we have Lucifer. There's no point in keeping a child that we cannot control. He has already taken three lives.
