Chapter 3
He picked up the phone and raised it to his ears, "oh.." He muttered, "I'll be there right away."
"You're leaving?" Ella asked.
"Yup," Damien replied, getting up from the gra.s.s and dusting his pants off, "duty calls."
"Okie," Regan replied. It would have been weird if Damien hadn't received a call after being away for so long, from his two jobs to his new clingy female friend, it wasn't surprising to hear that he had to leave early.
"Where are you going this time?" Ella asked as she watched Damien head to his car.
"Someone needs my help," Damien replied as he opened his car door.
"Your job or the girl?" Regan replied sarcastically.
"Don't be jello, you know you and Ella, mean a lot more to me than a random girl I just met," Damien grinned, "besides if me having a friendly relations.h.i.+p with Arianna shows this jealous side of you more, I think I may just have to stay friends with her."
"Yea yea go on and be the player you were born to be," Regan laughed.
"Yes Ma'am," Damien chuckled, "see you in a bit." He entered his car and drove off the clattering of his car bouncing off the stones on the ground. The sound slowly reduced
"Ahem!" Ella cleared her throat.
"Yea?" Regan replied, turning so see what Ella wanted.
"Oooo someone can't give up," Ella taunted.
"Shut up," Regan blushed.
"I have to agree with Damien, the jealous Regan is a good look for you," Ella grinned, "how long has it been now? 2 years?"
Regan ignored her comment, "what about you?"
Ella looked away.
"Who's the new guy you've been talking to?" Regan asked.
"Julius, what about him?" Ella asked.
"Don't pretend you don't like him, I can read you like an open book," Regan pressed.
"Only when you admit that you are head over heels for Damien," Ella snorted.
"Never in a million years, not for that playboy," Regan defended herself.
"Hmmm the more you say playboy I start to think playboys are just your type. What is his dark slick hair hypnotizing? His grayish eyes make you swoon? Or his build that makes you shy?" Ella giggled.
"Hahahaha real funny," Regan retorted, "now stop teasing me, and tell me what's going on with you and Julius."
"Oop you didn't deny it!" Ella smiled, "anyways.. I met Julius a few months ago and we started to get close to each other…" Ella began talking. Talking and talking and talking.
It was almost as if she was brainwashed by Julius.
"Remember the time when we jumped into the pool in winter and hit our b.u.ms on pure ice?" Regan interrupted.
"No…" Ella replied, "but I do remember when I went on an ice skating trip with Julius and some of his and my friends."
Why wasn't I invited then? Regan thought.
"What about the time I won 20 times in a row and got 3 teddy bears for us when we went to the carnival?" Regan asked.
".. The memory isn't that fresh, but a few days ago I went to the carnival with my other friends," Ella sighed.
"Not even why you asked out a boy in the summer and he rejected you so badly you started crying?" Regan asked again.
".. I do remember when Julius asked me out, and I said yes," Ella answered, "it was literally just 2 weeks ago we were walking in this park…"
Regan sat and listened to Ella's rant. She nodded sometimes to show that she was listening but then it got to a point where it seemed that she wasn't even noticed by Ella. Her nods weren't looked at or her moments of laughter went said while looking at Regan to let her experience them with her. Regan had become invisible, blending into the soil, becoming a mere teddy bear for Ella to talk to.
