LEAVE OUT ALL THE REST

Chapter 2

I hurriedly fixed myself on the mirror and went out of the house. I'm late from work.

I was half running when I reached the gate. Only the small portion of the gate was open since it has been 30 minutes when cla.s.ses started. A guy with a messy hair must've notice my presence looked back.

It was Emerson. He was holding a sketchbook. I looked into his jet black eyes. It was blank seems to have nothing but darkness. He has bruises near his lips and his upper left eyebrow has bandaid.

I wonder why.

His expression immediately changed from blank to cheerful.

"Ma'am! Let me help you," he said and carried my books.

"Thank you, Del Valle," I smiled at him. I am curious where he got those bruises but I didn't ask anyway.

"No problem, Ma'am. I see, you're quite late today," he looked at me as we walk in the hallways of the campus going to the faculty room.

"Quite?" I chuckled.

"Yes."

"Wait for me here. I'll just log my name in the logbook," I said and went to the guardhouse where the logbook is. I immediately returned.

"You missed your first period today, Del Valle."

"Today is Thursday. You are my teacher in first period during Thursdays," he smirked at me.

"Right," I chuckled. "Thank

"Sure Ma'am. I will make sure that all my cla.s.smates will be informed," he said as I write the instructions of their activity.

"Here. Thank you, Del Valle."

"You are always welcome, Ma'am," he said and left the faculty room.

I still have my next cla.s.s to attend to.

"That's all for today's lesson. You may take your recess."

I walked out of the room and went back to the faculty room. I saw Emerson's sketchbook on my table. He must've left it here. I didn't notice it earlier though.

I opened the sketchbook and I was in complete awe when I saw what's inside.

There was a lion smiling, looking so proud but on the other side was another lion hiding in the dark, looking so frail with tears br.i.m.m.i.n.g at its eyes.

The second page was a calligraphy of a song lyrics.

"Who cares if one more light goes out in the sky of a million stars?"

I know this lyrics. It's from the last alb.u.m of Linkin Park before Chester's suicide ent.i.tled, One More Light.

The door of the faculty room opened and Emerson was standing there.

"Ma'am I think I left my sketchbook here," he said and looked at the sketchbook I was holding.

"Ah, yes. You have such good sense of artistry. I like your works," I said as I hand him the sketchbook.

"This is just a hobby Ma'am. I'll get going."

I nodded and then he left. I was curious what's in the third page. It looks like a barcode.

I shook my head to put the thoughts away and went to my next cla.s.s.

I should focus on more important things.
