Chapter 5
The opposing armies stood tall as they faced each other under the blazing glare of the sun. Sweat dropped profusely to the ground as soldiers waited for their superior's command.
" Third Vanguard Unit! Forward! "
" Third Vanguard Unit! Forward! "
War drums resounded far and wide, its beats are like a giant's step ---- every step shakes the land and every step exudes an echoing thrill of prowess.
As the Third Vanguard Unit pushed forth, the stench of the corpse-ridden battlefield slowly intensified. Every pace they took, horrors of the previous battle became more vivid.
Blood stains, dead bodies, broken limbs, and innards decorated their surroundings. Weak-willed soldiers slowed down, some even completely stopped.
Seeing the waning morale, the leading officer of the Third Vanguard Unit moved towards the front and shouted.
" MOVE! "
" If you feel nervous, SHOUT! "
" IF YOU FEEL FEAR, ROAR! "
" IF YOU FEEL PITY, MOURN! "
" IF YOU FEEL ANGER, KILL! "
" ATTACK! "
At the commanding officer's encouragement, a booming roar resounded throughout the ranks.
" AAAAAAAHHHHH!!! "
" WAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! "
As the soldiers fear turned to courage, an all-out charge commenced. Their simultaneous charge turned into momentum, and their momentum further stirred morale.

Collision… the thundering lines collided with great might. Men stammered as they were flung, slashed, and pierced.
The clash does not give pity but death did it bring. As the men held their ground, all pushed for dear life. Not a single man dared emulate yesterday's mistake.
All knew the consequence of foolishness… death is fond of the foolish… it loves and embraces those who don't learn from experience…
" d.a.m.n you! "
" I'll hack you to pieces! "
" Prepare your neck for me! "
" I remember your face! You sc.u.mbag! "
" Aren't you ashamed of yourself? "
" Your mother would be proud of the coward you had turned! "
" Weakness and cowardice! What a great combination! "
Curses attacked as fast if not faster than cold hard weapons. Those easily irritated already have bright red eyes. But still, despite their irritation, they did not dare push alone.
Unlike yesterday, most of them now opt to work with their squads. And fruit did it bear… the current casualties are a drizzle compared to yesterday's heavy pouring…
The battle came to a deadlock, neither side gained nor lost much ground.
Roan fully utilized his puppets, he made them tank everything that came their way, while he casually attacked from the back.
Because everyone from Roan's squad was his puppets, he was able to move unhindered and unscratched.
Every single enemy that dared not bare their way were slain. Roan's squad mercilessly harvested lives left and right. Only in their front were there signs of a breakthrough.
Everyone was aghast by the lack of mercy. Especially Roan who was scared of his nonchalance towards killing.
It shouldn't be like this, he should be puking all over the place or something of that nature.
Roan tried to puke and act unnerved because of his inhumane deeds, yet his actions came out stiff and unnatural. A heavy sense of fakeness lingered for all to see.
Upon seeing the ridiculousness of his actions, Roan terminated any thoughts regarding his abnormality.
So what if he doesn't feel grieved whenever he kill? If it is really like that, then so be it! His thoughts would only be clouded if he further

" ATTACK! "
Roan's squad was like a beacon in a dark night. Soldiers rallied around his squad. They pushed together, fought together, and killed together...
Through the rallying soldiers' joint efforts, the enemy line slowly caved in.

Turyo Kingdom's soldiers were in disarray as they did their best to fend off the relentless push.
" A BREACH! "
" ATTACK! WIDEN THE BREACH! "
" PUs.h.!.+ "
" MEN, ATTACK! "
" DESTROY THESE b.a.s.t.a.r.dS! "
" KILL! "
" DON'T SHOW MERCY! "
Seeing the opportunity, officers of the Third Vanguard Unit dared not tarry as they issued their commands.
Not long after, the war drums of both sides sounded once again ----- another unit has been deployed to battle.
" HOLD! REINFORCEMENTS WOULD COME SOON! "
" DON'T LET THEM PUSH FURTHER! "
" PUSH BACK! "
" BE Pa.s.sIVE! BLOCK! "
" WE WILL WAIT FOR REINFORCEMENT! "
" USE YOUR s.h.i.+ELDS! "
The officers of the Turyo Kingdom encouraged their subordinates as they waited for another unit to reinforce their line.
" DROP YOUR s.h.i.+ELDS AND CONCENTRATE IN USING YOUR SPEAR! "
" WIDEN THE BREACH FURTHER! "
" PENETRATE THEIR LINE! "
" DON'T WAIT FOR THEIR REINFORCEMENT TO COME! "
Officers of the Third Vanguard Unit commanded their subordinates to concentrate on exploiting the gap in the enemy lines.
While the officers of both sides were busy issuing commands, the rallying men around Roan had been stopped by the enemy.
Because of their lacking experience, men of the Third Vanguard unit aren't able to effectively deal when the enemy turned pa.s.sive.
It was infuriating for the soldiers of the Third Vanguard army as they were completely halted by the s.h.i.+elds of the opposite side.
Even Roan was completely stopped in his tracks when the enemy focused all of their attention in blocking and defending.
Seeing that penetrating further would be impossible without using his miraculous skills, Roan resigned himself and gave way for others to take his position.
It wouldn't bid him well if he used his skills in broad daylight. Since pus.h.i.+ng would only exhaust his energy, Roan decided to pull back and recuperate a little bit.
Although the LF he would be getting would diminish if he isn't the one doing the killing, it was still acceptable if it means preserving his energy and fighting prowess.
Besides, since both armies have already invested another unit in the fighting, Roan would still have a lot of opportunities to reap considerable amount of LF.
Soon enough his decision proved helpful. When the reinforcement of their enemy arrived, they immediately rallied and fought ferociously to patch their line.
Men fell one after another from both sides; and as time pa.s.sed by, the breach was slowly patched.
The balance was established and turned to a stalemate. Even after both sides sent another two units, it was still dead even.
The scorching sun stood mightily as it overlooked the battlefield with glaring eyes.
Men fought unceasingly, their splattering blood warmed the ground as a spring of scarlet bloomed across the battlefield.
Panting, groans, agony-filled screams, vulgar curses, and cries of woe formed death's symphony. Death danced and cheered as he visited the unfortunate.
Laying on the ground, men cried and begged for help. Some good-natured fellows went out of their way, doing their best to mend the broken men that lay in torment.
Time pa.s.sed and late afternoon arrived.
Everyone was exhausted after hours of intense fighting. Therefore, both sides sounded the horns and ordered their men to fall back and reorganize.
Afterward, both armies started staring at each other…
The stare-game continued for another hour before both armies sent a group of militia officers to duel.
Roan who was resting at the back of the army wasn't able to witness the duels. But still, he was able to hear the earsplitting cheers.
Soldiers cheered on top of their lungs like there's no tomorrow. Their expectation and pride resonated along with their cheers as they prayed for heaven's grace to fall upon their champions.
" OHHHHHHHHHH!!! "
" OUUUUAAAAA!! "
" WAAAAAHHHHHH!! "
" RRRYYAAAAAA!! "
" WIN! WIN! WIN! WIN! "
" KILL HIM! KILL HIM! "
" OFF WITH HIS HEAD! "
" SHOW NO MERCY! "
The farce ended with the Turyo Kingdom's win. They were able to win most of the duels, killing and decapitating their opponents.
Dusk was fast approaching when the duels have come to a close.
With the sun setting in the horizon, both armies sounded their horns and ordered the soldiers to go back to their respective camp.
As they left, Roan looked back at the body-ridden battlefield. Complex emotions laid underneath his pupils, he was at loss for leaving the bodies that littered the battlefield.
Every single lifeless body could be considered a heaven-sent treasure for him. It was all reachable, he had even stepped on them. Yet he couldn't take the bodies… he doesn't dare take those treasures in front of everyone… he needs to wait… HE WILL WAIT!
Just the thought of having a legion of undead under his service makes Roan's blood boil with longing. But he needs to be cautious or disaster would come knocking.
