The Charm of Soul Pets

Chapter 1657: Are You Demon God?

The entire New Moon Land had become an ocean. Chu Mu clearly remembered it took him almost ten years to travel from the western border to Wanxiang City.

He had experienced many things during the ten years of journey, all left a deep impression in his memory.

In Chu Mu’s impression, this land which was submerged by the water held too many memories. Now that it became black ocean, he felt a sense of loss.

To an Undying rank, New Moon Land was far too little, unable to withstand a tiny bit of energy fluctuation. Even if Chu Mu reached Undying rank and possessed the strongest flame in this world, he could not protect this fragile land.

Flying past the black ocean, Chu Mu could vaguely sense Ancient Flood Dragon Person’s presence in the distance.

Ancient Flood Dragon Person did not dare to show up on the surface now. Crimson Sol’s flame severely burned its body and scales.

Ancient Flood Dragon Person was peeping at Chu Mu from far away.

Chu Mu already reached the sky above Wanxiang City. The only place preserved in the entire New Moon Land was Wanxiang City.

This city was protected by Chu Mu’s spatial barrier. The swarming black ocean water would flow past the sides of the city. No matter how violent the ocean waves were, Wanxiang City remained unscathed.

Chu Mu flew into Wanxiang City and noticed many wild soul pets running through the weed-infested streets.

The black ocean was rumbling outside the city, but could not break the protection barrier Chu Mu deployed. However, the scene was still intimidating and caused these soul pets to flee.

Chu Mu looked around and noticed that some empty mansions actually housed a few feeble people......

In a corner of a mansion, two orphans crouched together. They were skinny and dirty, and did not know where to run to like those panicking soul pets.

Chu Mu landed next to these two children who did not migrate away......

Perhaps, there were still many orphans like them in the various cities of New Moon Land. They were probably petrified by the black ocean water into statues, only orphans in Wanxiang City survived.

The two orphans sensed someone coming down from the sky. They opened their teary eyes and looked at Chu Mu in disbelief.

"It’s him......"

The boy pointed at Chu Mu in shock.

There were still a bit of crimson flames lingering on Chu Mu’s body, and they just saw a crimson figure fighting against that terrifying Evil Dragon in the sky. That scene was too astonishing to children like them.

Chu Mu looked at the two dirty children and turned his gaze to the neck of the girl.

A piece of purple crystal shard was hung on the girl’s neck. Chu Mu pointed at this little pendant and asked, "Do you still have fragments like this?"

The girl was too scared to speak. Next to her, the boy who was as skinny as a monkey mustered up his courage while protecting the girl, "No...... No more......"

"Where did you pick it up?" asked Chu Mu again.

"Not pick, this...... this is ours!"

Chu Mu thought for a moment. It seemed that the battle in Wanxiang City had been many years ago, these children were probably infants back then.

"Can you give it to me?" asked Chu Mu.

"N...... No," said the skinny boy. His legs were shaking while refusing Chu Mu.

"No? Aren’t you afraid that I will kill you and take it away?" Chu Mu grinned. This little boy was really daring.

"This city...... will be swa...... swallowed by the ocean. We...... we will die anyway. We can give you, but there is a condition," said the boy.

"Boy, do you know who you are trying to negotiate with?" Chu Mu cracked open his mouth, his smile gave off a terrifying creepiness.

"I...... I don’t know," The boy rummaged through his pocket with a shaky hand and held out more of those purple crystal shards. He timidly yet stubbornly said, "You...... You bring us to a safe...... safe place, I will give you these also."

Chu Mu received the crystal shards and used Crimson Sol’s flame to smelt the shards.

However, it was clear that these crystal shards only amounted to half of the complete pendant. The remaining shards were still missing.

"There’s only half here. I will only bring one of you out. You have more shards, so I will bring you out," said Chu Mu as he pointed at the boy.

"B...... Brother," The girl was terrified. She did not want to stay in this empty city alone and get swallowed by the black ocean.

The toy was tear-stricken and gritted his teeth, "Then take her out."

"Why?" Chu Mu looked at the boy.

"I...... I need to protect this city...... Grandfather told me that. He did not leave at that time, so the city was protected," said the boy.

"Oh, your grandfather......" muttered Chu Mu.

The grandfather that boy mentioned was just a member of the volunteer army during the New Moon Land war. Chu Mu did not even know his name.

That war happened not very long ago. However, the aftermath was not completely resolved. For example, nobody looked after these war orphans......

After chanting an incantation, Chu Mu summoned Little Yellow Spring to his side.

"Calamity, take these two children to Northern Territory’s Main City," Chu Mu tapped Little Yellow Spring’s head.

"Ni~!" Little Yellow Spring nodded and swept up the two children onto its back.

The two children had never seen such a powerful soul pet up close before. They were still in a daze after sitting on Yellow Spring’s back.

The girl mustered up her courage and asked, "Big brother...... are you the god written in the books?"

"Probably," Chu Mu showed a gentle smile.

"Why are you looking for these shards?" asked the girl again as she seemed to have felt that Chu Mu was not so scary anymore.

"These shards belong to my friend. They are very important to her. My pet will carry you to the new Noew Moon Palace. If you want to protect a city, just courage alone is not enough. Try to learn how to control powerful soul pets. If you want to learn, there wil be people willing to teach you there," said Chu Mu.

"Can...... Can I learn from you?" asked the boy while being very careful not to offend Chu Mu.

This boy was probably one of the few who witnessed the battle between Chu Mu and Evil Dragon, he knew that this must be the world’s strongest power. If not for this god-like man protecting Wanxiang City, a simple technique could vaporize them.

"Sure, but only after I finish the things I have to do," said Chu Mu.

The boy desperately nodded. This was like a dream to him.

To him, the strongest power was the power to protect a city like what his grandfather told him. The man before him could easily destroy the world, that strength could easily protect a city.

......

After Little Yellow Spring took the two children away, Chu Mu used his senses to search for other shards in Wanxiang City.

The shards emitted a similar energy fluctuation, it was not very difficult to find them.

Soon, Chu Mu found all the shards. Then, he used Crimson Sol flame to smelt them into a square shape, though there were still cracks that he could not fix......

When Chu Mu was leaving Wanxiang City, he especially added another protection barrier to the city.

......

A crimson starlight flashed past many borders.

In the distance, the restrained Yu Suo saw that bastard who broke his promise.

When they were negotiating the conditions, she sternly told Chu Mu that he must never use soul pact or overwhelming strength to restrain her freedom.

In the end, he forcefully restrained her not long after agreeing with the condition.

She even began suspecting whether Chu Mu would really help her take revenge.

She did not need Chu Mu to completely overthrow Heaven Palace, that was simply suicidal. Heaven Palace must have its reason for being able to exist for such a long time. What she wanted Chu Mu to do was to kill Yu Tian.

Chu Mu’s flying speed was much faster than before. He was still near the horizon a moment ago, yet he was already nearby after a moment.

Yu Suo hurriedly wiped away her tears using her sleeves. No matter how frustrated or wronged she felt, she must not let this despicable bastard see her shedding tears. She had given everything to him, she could not understand why he still would not let her go. Even when facing Heaven Palace, she had never compromised so much.

Suddenly, a hot gust of wind blew past. Chu Mu stopped in front of Yu Suo.

Yu Suo did not even raise her head and appeared to be unwilling to talk to Chu Mu or see him.

"I was talking with two orphans, so it took a little time," explained Chu Mu.

Yu Suo remained quiet.

"This is for you," Chu Mu extended his palm and held out the square purple crystal pendant before Yu Suo.

Yu Suo did not care at first, but when she saw the purple crystal pendant, her gaze finally wavered.

For some reason, every time she saw this purple pendant, tears would flow out from her heart. It would shatter the arrogance, aloofness and stubbornness she practised and change her back into a child who could not endure any sadness.

How could she cry? She vowed she would never cry again.

However, when seeing this purple pendant again, why was she unable to hold back her tears......

Teardrops fell onto the purple crystal pendant. There were originally two of such pendants. There were originally no cracks on the pendants. And now, there was only one pendant left, and it was full of cracks, even its shape was changed due to a certain person’s poor memory.

Yu Suo snatched this pendant from Chu Mu’s hand and tightly held it in her palm.

"Heaven Palace should have found out who is stealing Solar Eclipse energy. You won’t be safe alone, you should follow me for now......" said Chu Mu.

Yu Suo wiped her tears and coldly spoke, "As what? Your soul pet?"

Chu Mu did not know how to answer.

Just what was Yu Suo to him? Friends? That was really laughable, Chu Mu himself would not believe Enemies? That did not seem to be the case now. Enemies would not rely on each other like this, and they had a common enemy now.
