Chapter 11
This lasted an hour before my mom patted my shoulder and said "Michael, do you want some Soto?"
Since I rarely eat one, I agreed and went to the place where they made the Soto. After I eat near there, then one of the people who cooks the Soto suggested we bring the Soto to the guest, basically someone who is not family member but is here.
My mom asked me to help them and even without her asking I would have helped since I just want to hear those people talked a little since the majority of the smokers is from them. So when I offered them the Soto I heard them talking of course I heard them discussing business and I froze a little.
After giving back the plates used to carry bowls of Soto I went to the place between the Soto cookery and the actual Funeral Home since it just rained like half an hour ago it's cool there. I leaned against the car parked there under a tree that dripped some water down into my head and some other places.
'So, this Funeral is just like those things in Anime.' I phrased the first sentence before I continued 'Just like in Anime, they used Party, in the Anime it's usually just birthday party to talk about business or socializing without actually caring about the birthday itself but here the Funeral is used to do that too.'
'Perhaps it's normal, but I don't like this normality, this is one more reason why I don't want to be normal.' I firmed my desire to be not 'normal' in my mind again.
I stood there continuing to read novels since it's cooler here. It wasn't until 7 p.m. 2 hours after I arrived at 5 p.m. i only know it because my mother once again urged me to attend the consolation ceremony for
Guessing from the flower crossed and the old guy with black priest clothes. My grandpa is either Catholic or Protestant but since my mom is Protestant, he most likely Protestant too.
I looked at my brother and sister along with some other kids that is still playing with their phone before I refused saying that I will take care of them.
My mother then just went on and sat on the chairs that is placed on the right side of the coffin where all of them is the main family member or the one that represent them.
Then out of nowhere, the aunt from Hong-Kong, yes that aunt. Dragged me into the chair that is for the family member. The one that is before the coffin on the right side and the left one is for the one from the church or something, all other guest is still eating and smoking.
I sighed and let myself being dragged away by that aunt. I sat down and some woman from the church handed me some paper with some song written on it.
Turns out after some speech we are asked to stand and pray before singing some song according to the number said while the old priest followed too, after that we are asked to sat down before the old priest give some speech and repeat.
The whole time I was pretty bored since I am not actually really sad about this I observed everyone in the room.
I don't know if the priest really believe what he said about human is the most special being because we have spirit, soul, and body while animal only have the spirit and body while plant only have body, he explained how G.o.d give the breath of soul into the human shaped dirt before we are born, how our soul Is eternal and how grandpa is actually just back to the G.o.d's side.
Honestly, I don't believe that s.h.i.+t. Then I went to observe the 16 main family member that is chosen to represent the whole family. There is the current wife, the third one; then there is the second wife, that is my grandma; then there is the whole kids from my grandma and the current wife, there is this girl who is technically my aunt but she is still in high school.
It sounds very familiar to me as if I had once watched an anime about it or novel. I noticed that the one that have been crying since the priest started his speech is only 4 people, the current wife, my grandma, my mom, and the eldest son of the current wife.
The others, they are listening there is even one guy who is playing with his phone the second son of the current wife, I think I shouldn't call her wife, she is a widow now.
Anyway, time goes on, I spend time observing everyone on that sat on those 16 chairs and the priest casue I sat on the second row, I couldn't just turn my head and starred at the one behind me, right?
To me all of this is very weird. In front of a still unclosed coffin, his family I whispering, talking, playing with phones while the priest is still spouting off his nonsense at least it is to me.
Finally, around an hour or so since there is no clock and my phone is with my brother now still plugged into the power bank, I lend to him. Yes, after all the people from the church sang some song together all family member was asked to stand beside the coffin by the priest.
While we are gathering there the priest still spouting how my grandpa is now in heaven or so again, then the priest asked us one by one to splash some water into the corpse, starting from the wife, ex-wife, child, grandchild.
