Chapter 19
"What's wrong Iris? Why are you so sad?" Luna asked.
"I miss Maxwell. He's been very sweet to me and helping me out a lot, and I just got rejected by my mate. It seems like Maxwell doesn't have a mate, but I'm not going to pry and force myself in. I'll wait until he's ready to tell me," I said in between sniffles.
"You care about this Maxwell guy, don't you?" Luna said.
"Yeah I do. He's the Beta of the pack. But since Lucius was stripped from the Alpha t.i.tle, he's going to be alpha," I said.
Luna hugged me close to her as I tried to stop sniffling. Iris and Michael were now laying together on the gra.s.s watching the sunset. We stayed like this for a little while longer until we heard a howl come from where the pack was. Michael responded and started to head back with Iris on his back. Luna helped me up and we walked behind them to the pack house. Once we got to the pack house, Luna pulled me to the side.
"I know you care about Maxwell. And I know that you guys don't have mates anymore. But I'm going to have to send you back. I have a surprise for you both when you wake up," Luna said.
A surprise? What could it be? And what confuses me the most is that she said 'anymore'. What does she mean by that?
"What do you mean by Maxwell not having a mate anymore?" I asked.
"His mate died," Luna said.
"Oh.... it was really nice to meet you Luna," I said.
"You too Iris. And you're welcome in advance for your surprise," Luna said before tapping between my eyes, sending me back.
I slowly woke up to see that it was dark in the room that I was in. I looked over to see Maxwell sound asleep next to me in a chair. I grabbed his hands and felt sparks run through my body. A mate bond. Maxwell stirred in his sleep before seeing me awake.
"Iris?" Maxwell asked.
I smiled and rubbed my thumb across his knuckles, enjoying the feeling of the sparks.
"Yes Max," I said raspy.
That's all it took before Maxwell attacked me in a tight hug and nuzzled into my neck. I giggled and he growled.
"Max, what's gotten into you?" I asked.
"Mine," he said huskily.
Thank you moon G.o.ddess.
