Masks Of Love

Chapter 24

- Lance. Can we talk?

- Sure, Bree. But can we go to the pantry, I really need a coffee right now.

- I don't think it's a good idea to talk in there. I'll wait for you in my office.

- Don't worry. It's already 7 PM. I'm pretty sure that no one is in the office anymore.

- Lance please...

Seeing that she didn't want to come with him and the fact he really needed a cup of coffee even if it was late, Lance came close to Bree bent down a little and picked her up like a sack of potatoes. He wasn't surprised at Bree not kicking and screaming at him to put her down since he knew she was in a lot of pain to that. When they arrived at the pantry Lance put her down gently but didn't let her go, instead he embraced her.

- Bree, tell me what happened?

- Lance, I want you to finish chef Leo's cooking book.

- Why? I've seen you enjoying helping him with the book.

- Lance... I know we have a month left but I can't come to work anymore. I'm tired. You know that Jack married his fiancee the day when it was my birthday half a month ago. Do you think I can still go on seeing him everyday at work? I can't even cook anymore. You know that cooking was my pa.s.sion and know I can't even do that because he once told me that he liked see the smile on my face when I was cooking. What he didn't know that he was the reason I was smiling. I'm angry at myself for falling in love with him. I'm angry for paying attention to everything he said

- Do you want to take revenge on him?

- You know you should comfort me not telling me about revenge, which I don't want.

- Why not? He deserves it. You're to good for him.

- Look Lance. I don't want to take revenge on him simply because one day he will regret marrying her. I don't need to do anything.

- What do you mean by that?

- Nothing. It just my instinct telling me he won't be happy married to her. I don't want to talk about this anymore. So, tell me will you finish the book instead of me?

- What will you do then if I'm gonna finish it? I know you're really hurt right now, but you can't give up everything that you like to do because of him.

- I don't know yet. I've talked with Irene and James and they are okay with me not coming to work anymore.

- Bree... I understand. But you have to promise me at least that you won't give up cooking

completely. I know that lately it was chef Leo who has been preparing your lunch-box and that you enjoyed eating his food. So, you'll find again the strength and the motivation to cook again. I trust you. So, don't give up yet.

- Are you done hugging me? Bree said after a moment of silence.

- Who says I'm hugging you? I'm just recharging with energy...

- Hey. I'm not a charger...

- Yeah, yeah... Come on, let's go home. I don't want to stay here much longer.

- Okay. Your wish is my command. Lance said as he picked Bree again like a sack of potatoes.

- Hey. Put me down.

- Why? I thought you like it. Lance teased Bree.

- Well, for your information I like been carried like a princess, not like a sack of potatoes.

- Oh, it's that so? Well then, my princess I'll do as you say.

- Haha. Very funny, Lance. Do you plan to carry me like that 'till we get home? It's a long way.

- Don't worry, my princess. Your carriage awaits. Said Lance as he carried Bree outside the building where a real carriage was sitting in front of the building.

- You were kidding about the carriage. Bree said as Lance put her to sit down on the carriage and as he sat down as well he told the driver the address of their home.

Meanwhile, inside the pantry, behind the sofa...

- So, this food wasn't made by Bree. I waited so long for a chance to eat her food again, only to find out it was made by chef Leo. Oh, whatever I'm hungry so I might just as well finish this. Still, Bree dishes are better than chef's Leo dishes... Please go to to read the latest chapters for free
