To see the memories and the future of those to whom they belong. " he moves to place another blanket over her looking at her thoughtfully."When she wakes I will teach her how to use the G.o.d stone. Aisling jumps up instantly awake. She is in a dazed panic. Her voice shaking with worry.
"How long was I sleeping? " she closes her eyes to put the glamour spell back into place. So she can move throughout the encampment without any commotion.
"Not long just a few hours. You look fine don't worry. Let's go quickly." They move out of the dwelling towards the sick dwelling. The run into an officer on their
"Is everything ok?" He sees the panic on their faces.
"The medicine mans wife is having difficulty with the baby. Is there a Dr. around?" Inola asks urgently his world coming out curt from his worry.
"No, but I have helped deliver horses and babes back home. I can help if you will explain to them that I mean no harm." He comes with them to see the medicine man. Explaining to him that the solder does not mean his wife harm that he just wants to help. That the white man does not have the same beliefs as their people. He will not hurt her, and he does not feel like she is dangerous to him. He agrees to let the man help as long as he only touches her out if necessity. The solder and the two women enter the dwelling. She is in labor and her fever has come back. The solder helps by trying to keep cool water on her head to draw the fever out. Aisling is timing the contractions, while talking softly to her to keep her calm. During a hard contraction Aisling sees how tired she is,she becomes worried she is to exhausted. She remembered that Salali sang the sage song to give Inola ad the uncles strength when in the sweat lodge. She begins to softly sing the song. Her clear powerful voice rang out in the encampment. Hearing this others came to the outside of the dwelling. They began to sing with her. To give their tribesmen strength and to help keep her calm. Waya's mother told her sister is time to push that her baby was ready. The solder left to get fresh water and cloth. Aisling moves to sit behind her to give her help in pus.h.i.+ng. It took a few times but she delivered a strong healthy boy. His cries could be heard throughout the encampment. The solder returned just in time for them to have fresh water to clean the babe. Aisling thanked him for his help and for staying close incase there were problems.
"No problem Miss I was happy to help." He congratulated the medicine man and went to report for duty. Aisling hands the babe to his father and goes to place more herbs on the fire to help his mother. Inola notices that she is playing with her black crystal. She only does that when frightened or if evil is close. Following her to the entrance of the dwelling he calls to her.
"Aisling are you ok? What is troubling you?" His stance is rigid as if bracing himself for bad news. She comes out and just looks up at him. He can see the exhausted look on her face.
"I'm worried because of her fever I can't get it to stay down. I'm worried that something bad will happen if I give her the medicine I brought. " he places his hand on her shoulder.
"You have been doing all you can with the natural remedies. If you want to try it then try it. I don't know what will happen either, but I know if something happens and you didn't try you will feel guilty. So follow your heart." Aisling goes back inside and gets her bag. Pulling out her fever and pain reducer giving it to her. She noticed another bottle in her bag. Astila had placed antibiotics and decongestant also in her bag. Giving her the antibiotics first, she decides to save the decongestant for later incase the herbs quit working. Smiling up at the sky and placing her hand on the woman's head. She says a prayer for them.
" Heavenly Father
It's me you know your strange child. I am asking you to send your healing power through her. Help her to be strong and healthy for her child and tribe. Guide me in what I need to do that I will always be in your will. Father above I thank you for bringing me here to this time and place. To give me the chance to see where Astila and I both come from. In your sons holy name I pray Amen"She feels the woman stir beneath her hand.
"You are the child who saved me the one that is of us but not of us. Thank you for saving my child and I. " she closed her eyes and fell back to sleep. Aisling Lay beside her holding her hand waiting for her to wake again. Feeding her porridge and having the faith that G.o.d will answer her prayer. They brought the baby to nurse every few hours though she did not wake. In the late afternoon just before sunset. She woke from her sleep. Aisling sleeping beside her holding her hand. She looks at this strange girl beside her. Her skin pale as the moon, her hair a ma.s.s of red curls. This did not look like the same girl she saw when she last awoke.
