Chapter 23
"Add more."
"But that would hurt him."
"He can take it."
Lucas saw eyes startled staring at him. They moved soon after a while.
A woman in front of him, wearing white dress and masks, was holding a syringe.
"Lucas you need to lie down." Lucas knew it was Doll who spoke.
"Where am I? How did I get here? What am I doing here?" Lucas asked. His throat was dry and can hardly talk.
"You pa.s.sed out while Coach was helping you get here at the Emergency Room." Moon was the one who answered.
Emergency.. Room? Lucas looked around the familiar room. He bit his lips while gazing at his injuries that were now covered with thick bandages.
"Why didn't you fight back?"
I turned to Moon who was leaning on the wall and was looking at him.
"Moon," Doll warned.
"What?" Moon retorted. "He's my cousin! If I find out who they are, I will make them realize who they are messing with!"
Lucas was moved. Moon was his only relative left. And he was considered lucky with Moon.
After a while, the door suddenly opened. Princ.i.p.al Lyns entered. "Are you okay?" she asked in a drawling voice.
"Fine." Lucas managed to say.
She came closer to Lucas and examined his condition, and then she smiled. Lucas' turn, he frowned.
"This is a critical issue in a critical time of the tournament. Anytime now they'll be done." Princ.i.p.al Lyns sat on one of the chairs. She crossed her legs in an elegant way.
"Someone leaked the information about Lucas. The news already reached the Emba.s.sy of some schools. They think it's unfair to import someone from other localities to compete with them in the tournament. But then.. we can't blame those stupid people."
Moon snorted with a slight laughter.
"So since the issue has yet to be settled, no one can move without the permission from the Emba.s.sy to avoid additional mess."
Princ.i.p.al Lyns said some more but Lucas wasn't listening anymore. One thing kept rewinding in his mind.
Someone leaked his informations. They can be the one who've beaten him. Those with great anger
But one question came up on his mind. Who would do this?
---
The selected partic.i.p.ants were currently in the conference room and a few days had already pa.s.sed since the incident in the Null Room. Lucas was as fine as before. They sat on the chairs placed around a room, facing a board, with Princ.i.p.al Lyns explaining things they should know.
"So here's the deal—"
Princ.i.p.al Lyns pointed the board to where a graph was shown. It's a graph of the Tournament's previous winners.
"This year is going to be the 17ᵗʰ Division Skills Tournament. But aside from the nine schools in the country, only seven were remained to partic.i.p.ate."
One by one, Princ.i.p.al Lyns stated each school that won the t.i.tle. Aspho High won the most— 5 times. Second was Lamia High with 4 wins. Next were White Day High that won 3 t.i.tles. Then, Blue High and Siren High, which both had 2 wins. Retriever High which had 1 win. Lastly, Main Drip, with no wins at all.
"You see, we are just third." Princ.i.p.al Lyns pointed the 'White Day High' written on the board.
"Aspho and Lamia are the leading schools. Did you know that.. there was a time Aspho won three consecutive tournaments? How do you think they did that?"
Moon snorted with distaste. "They cheated!"

Princ.i.p.al Lyns stared at him pointedly. Well, it was the truth.. They were just totally unaware.
"Teamwork?" faked Doll. After all, she already knew what Aspho's real color was.
Princ.i.p.al Lyns nodded. "It is one of the most vital element in the tournament. But Aspho has another thing—"
"They were eager to win."
Everyone looked at Lucas' direction when he answered. "What?" he asked. "What's wrong with what I said?"
"They were the first winner of the Tournament. They became the leading school for many years. They were scared that their t.i.tle would be seized so they did everything to win. They're just not afraid of defeat, but also disgrace and humiliation."
"Okay," Princ.i.p.al Lyns said in a hesitant voice. "You have a point, Lucas. The desire to win. The mindset that there's no other option but to win..."
There's no other option for Lucas, too, but winning. If he don't, he won't be able to see his worth in this world anymore. He promised that to himself. He will do everything to win the game.
"I want you to have that mindset but only better. I want you to have a deeper and greater reason for wanting to win."
"There are other reasons more important than the prizes and recognition. Believe me, in the matter of life and death, those material things are nothing but words. You will definitely lose if you die!"
"Now let's rephrase something. There's no other option but—"
She intentionally didn't continue what she was saying. She just smiled seeing the group's silence. Lucas looked back to the front and uttered in a whisper.
There's no other option but to defeat Aspho High!
