Hearing the cries of shock from the Fang family’s people, Xiao Yun smirked. A jade-green light flashed from his forehead as jade-green symbols covered his body. A jade-green branch then extended out towards the violet flames; the moment it came into contact with the flames, the originally terrifying flames suddenly calmed down.
The crowd watched as Xiao Yun stepped into the violet flames. This scene caused the Fang family’s people to feel utterly dumbfounded - of course, it wasn’t because they were worried for the youth, but because the flames were acting so strangely. The flames had been incredibly berserk and looked as if they could incinerate everything; however they suddenly calmed down.
And what were those jade-green symbols on the youth’s body? Waves of shock were sent through the Fang family’s cultivators. The entire valley became extraordinarily quiet as numerous eyes stared at the youth in incredulity.
Under the gaze of the crowd, Xiao Yun’s foot disappeared into the violet flames.
Gulp!
The Fang family’s people gulped, their hearts in their throats.
These were flames that could obliterate anything in their path, and even people standing at a distance could feel they were being roasted. And yet, this youth really had taken a step inside. How could a mere cultivator of the Innate realm withstand these flames? The crowd felt incredibly perplexed as they stared at the youth, watching his leg immerse in the flames.
Whoos.h.!.+
At this moment, the crowd let out the breaths they had been holding. As long as this youth died, the Fang family would have one less grave enemy.
However, just as they released that breath, their expressions froze. The youth looked completely fine, and didn’t cry out like they had expected.
"How’s this possible?"
"How can someone possibly be unscathed after stepping into those flames?" Disbelief was written all over the faces of the Fang family’s people; they were unable to comprehend how a mere cultivator of the Innate realm had survived despite walking into those flames.
"Could it be those jade-green symbols?" Fang Rui’s pupils contracted as he stared at the jade-green light covering Xiao Yun’s body. Because Xiao Yun’s back was towards them, they had not seen the jade-green branch extending out of his forehead.
After taking that step, Xiao Yun’s entire body entered into the flames.
"He’s fine?" Fang Rui and the others were flabbergasted.
"Is that guy even human?" The crowd was unable to accept this.
Another Fang family cultivator asked, "Could it be that the violet flames are just an illusion?"
"Possibly." Someone vigorously nodded. If that wasn’t the case, how could Xiao Yun have safely entered into the cave?
Fang Rui thought for a moment before looking at the man next to him, saying, "You go try it out."
"Me?" His face fell, and he couldn’t help but retreat as he looked at the fire cave.
Just the air coming from the fire cave was enough to sear his skin; wouldn’t he turn to dust if he actually touched those flames?
"What are you so afraid about? Xiao Yun’s only at the early stage of the Innate realm," Fang Rui said patiently. "Go and try it out. If you don’t die, you’ll have performed a meritorious service. Don’t you like the Liu family’s Liu Hua Niang? We’ll immediately arrange for you to be married when we get back. Young master Fang Hao will also reward you with many spirit pills to help you break through to the Innate realm. He’ll be joining the Heaven Origin Sect soon. When that time comes, what medicinal pills won’t he have?"
"Liu Hua Niang? Medicinal pills?" The man courageously started walking towards the fire cave.
Since Xiao Yun could safely enter, so could he. By some luck, he made it to the mouth of the cave of flames. He gritted his teeth as he stepped towards the fire.
"Will he be fine?" The Fang family’s people all held their breaths.
Just as that person took a step into the flames, a violet light shone out as a wave of fire
"Arghhhhh!!!" A wail sounded out as the violet light flashed, and the man was gone. All that remained was the violet-coloured fire cave that continuously spewed out flames.
"Those flames are real!"
"How come Xiao Yun was uninjured?" The Fang family’s cultivators were perplexed.
"Could it really have been because of that jade-green light?" Fang Rui deeply frowned as he thought to himself.
"Captain, what do we do now?" the others asked.
"Wait! I don’t believe that this brat won’t come out. As long as he dares to come out, we’ll kill him without mercy!" Fang Rui said as his eyes glinted.
"Yes!" The others nodded, a sinister expression on their faces as they muttered, "We definitely can’t spare him."
After walking into the violet flames, Xiao Yun felt as if he had walked into some sort of portal. He was bound by a mysterious energy, and after a moment, his body was released.
"Where is this place?" Xiao Yun looked around in curiosity.
Looking around, there was a violet light in front of him as suffocatingly hot air rushed towards him like waves. The heatwaves were even more terrifying than the fire at the mouth of the cave, which caused Xiao Yun to stumble backwards. He felt as if his body was burning, to the point that it was almost unbearable.
"What searing hot heatwaves!" Xiao Yun was quite shocked.
The violet light came from the violet flames, which continuously burned in all directions. The heatwaves filled the entire cave, and Xiao Yun saw that there was a deep pit in front of him.
There was a violet light emanating out of the pit, and Xiao Yun could detect some signs of life within it.
"Why would these flames contain signs of life?" Xiao Yun felt quite surprised, and looked towards the violet light, wanting to see what sort of being it contained that would give off these heatwaves.
"That looks like a violet orb of light." Through the violet light, he finally saw the being within the violet flames. It was a fist-sized ball of violet flames, and looked like a soul floating in the air.
Beside the violet flames was a crimson red ball of flames.
"These 2 flames seem to be fighting." Xiao Yun was a bit surprised, and as he looked closer, his heart started to rapidly thump. "It seems to be a bird… how is this possible? How could a bird reside within a ball of flames?"
After looking closely, Xiao Yun found that there was a sparrow within the crimson red ball of flames.
"This bird seems to be devouring those violet flames!" After observing for a while, Xiao Yun realised what was happening. The sparrow was giving off a crimson light, trying to devour the violet flames, but the flames were resisting the crimson bird.
Just like that, the 2 parties continuously fought as a berserk heatwave emanated out from them. As they fought, both of their auras became weaker. Evidently, they had both used up quite some strength.
Suddenly, a jade-green light flashed within Xiao Yun’s sea of consciousness as the Martial Spirit joyfully stabbed into the fighting flames. A wave of jade-green symbols spread out, absorbing the incredibly pure flames.
As the flames were absorbed by the Martial Spirit, Xiao Yun could feel his spirit energy becoming more and more powerful.
"Not only are these 2 flames, but they’re also 2 souls!" Xiao Yun became delirious with delight as he felt his spirit energy becoming stronger. As long as his spirit energy could become stronger, he could stop Fang Rui in his tracks!
With the Martial Spirit joining in, the 2 flames’ auras became weaker and weaker as sounds of agitation sounded out and heatwaves were unleashed. Evidently, they had also discovered the arrival of a third party.
However, Xiao Yun’s Martial Spirit was incredibly domineering, and the jade-green symbols suppressed these heatwaves. This caused Xiao Yun to feel dumbfounded. It seemed that his unremarkable Martial Spirit was quite astonis.h.i.+ng!
Under the absorption of the Martial Spirit, the 2 flames did not continue to fight, for fear of exhausting their vital essence. A berserk heatwave suddenly roared out from them.
BOOM!!
The flames exploded out as the mighty aura blew Xiao Yun backwards. The Martial Spirit had been stabbed into the flames; it trembled and was sent into retreat by the ma.s.sive wave of energy.
Xiao Yun was sent back over 50 metres, and he coughed up a mouthful of blood.
If it wasn’t for the Heaven-Devouring Divine Art rapidly absorbing the Fire Essence Qi, it would have been difficult for Xiao Yun to last. When his Martial Spirit was beat back, it buzzed as it delved into the Fire Vein in the deep pit.
After the violet flames dissipated, a crimson red light shot towards Xiao Yun.
A vicious voice sounded out, "Boy, you dared to ruin this lord’s chances. I’ll kill you!"
"It’s that Heaven-Devouring Sparrow!" Xiao Yun was quite shocked as he realised whose voice this was. By the time he heard the voice, the Heaven-Devouring Sparrow was right in front of him.
It was no longer as ma.s.sive as it had been. Instead, it was only a fist-sized sparrow. Evidently, this was its demonic soul. However, the flames on it gave off a fierce and mighty aura.
Before the Heaven-Devouring Sparrow had reached him, a powerful wave of spirit energy cut into Xiao Yun’s sea of consciousness like a sharp blade. The spirit energy caused Xiao Yun’s mind and spirit to tremble and almost collapse.
"What strong spirit energy." Xiao Yun was startled, and he quickly focused as he used his spirit energy to sense the Heaven-Devouring Tower within his dantian. He planned to use the Spirit-Destroying Chapter to devour the Heaven-Devouring Sparrow’s spirit energy.
Buzz!
Just as Xiao Yun was about to activate the Spirit-Destroying Chapter, the Heaven-Devouring Tower trembled and gave a buzzing sound as the inscriptions on it flowed around. It let out a dark light as it gave off incredible shockwaves.
As if it felt Xiao Yun’s mind, one of the Heaven-Devouring Tower’s doors suddenly opened, turning into a dark path. A vortex extended out of it, hovering within Xiao Yun’s dantian, looking like a pa.s.sage to the underworld.
When this vortex appeared, it completely devoured the Heaven-Devouring Sparrow’s spirit energy.
"What’s going on?" the Heaven-Devouring Sparrow cried out in shock as a look of alarm appeared within its eyes. It stared at the youth as it muttered, "This aura feels quite familiar, and it can devour my spirit energy. Does this boy have some sort of treasure?"
