Bewitching Prince Spoils His Wife: Genius Doctor Unscrupulous Consort

Chapter 541

I gripped at my younger sister's shoulders, hoping to find some solace and peace. The warmth had long since leeched from my bones, my skin pale in the cold air, a contrast to my dull black top. My sister was warm though, she always was. She was the kind of person who could make anyone laugh, she was great at it, but I don't think that I'll ever be able to see that smile again.

As soon as the police sirens had started sounding I had held her hand and started running. I had read of children, who were sent to foster care, most of them had left a bad taste in my mouth. Usually I would look at my mother baking in the kitchen and my dad reading newspaper in morning. Mom would then come up and straighten his tie, giving him a soft kiss on the cheek. We were never going to go to foster care; my parents would always stay with me and my sister.

Sadly life is not like those fortune cookies; happy and carefree. Real life was a nemesis which hated the laughter and mere happiness of people, and if someone seemed too happy she would take them away. It was her favourite

That's exactly what she did with mom and dad, she took them away.

"I'm cold, Bella." My sister said, s.h.i.+vering from the slight frostiness of air. I looked at my innocent sister who still believed in Santa Claus, Toothfairy and Jack Frost, who thrived on stories about Sandman and looked out for eggs in Easter. How were we going to survive?

"Here use my jacket, Dumplin." I said as I offered her my navy jacket. It was too huge on her small frame but as long as it protected her from biting cold it was fine. The chill seemed to spread into my very bones and I rubbed my hands with my palms.

"I just-" She interrupted her own words with a yawn. Her cute b.u.t.ton nose was scrunched up and eyes squeezed tight.

"Sleep for now, Dumplin. We will talk later." I said and she nodded and leaned her head against my shoulder. We were in a park, one which wasn't closed in the nights, I knew because my dad often had trouble sleeping and I would come here with him and because I was a daddy's girl and a light sleeper I would often wake up when he opened the door.

My thoughts were running in different direction; their laugh and smile burning into my mind. Tears p.r.i.c.kled into my eyes and I was glad for once to have a sister who lived in a fairytale world where nothing bad ever happened. Where people didn't die and the prince was riding on a horse like some knight to save the princess. As the elder sister I had often scoffed when I heard those stories but right now I wanted to lose myself and my body in a utopia of my own. I prayed this was just a horrible nightmare and that I actually was a princess from one of those fairytale kingdoms.

Tears p.r.i.c.kled my eyes and cut a trail down my cheeks.
